ELLINGTON

Ellington Boys

After hearing Ellington for the first time in January this year, I instantly fell in love. They describe themselves as Indie/Rock/Acoustic (according to their Myspace page!). Vocalist – Jake – has such a sweet voice that almost seems to whisper along to the music. I don’t usually listen to “Indie” music, so I’m not sure if its common, but their timing and rhythm in the songs are a lot different to anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s not a bad thing, it just took a little bit of getting used to. It makes it seem even more like a little story they are telling you inside their song. Their lyrics are adorable and catchy, primarily about – you guessed it – love!

“We don’t write love songs, we write songs about life. If our songs are full of love then maybe our lives are just awesome!?”

ELLINGTON EP

Ellington’s music feels like a dream, it really captures you. Their first EP – The Joy We Keep In – was a bit on the rough side, but you learn to love it. Their second EP – “More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life” – is an easier listen, and my favourite! I had most of their songs played over 100 times in iTunes in about two months.

They are a Brisbane band, but the singer is from the US. They are so dedicated to the music they make, it makes me smile! They deserve so much more recognition than what they get now! They remain one of my number one favourite bands.

“You and me all alone in the weather, it’s certainly never rained this hard! Creatively I drew a picture on some paper, I drew our names and in the middle was a heart. I have a bag full of Polaroid pictures, here’s a funny one of us in the snow. Do you remember driving hours to get there and when we did we wanted out of the cold?
If I came to your house and I blew a kiss your way, would you come out?
I wrote down on your door step in a black felt pen thirteen hundred assets you have over them.
I love you and I want you back.”
Between Faith and the City Lights, More Like A Movie, Less Like Real Life.

Harry Potter

June 16, 2009

I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (for about the millionth time) as its the Harry Potter book I’ve read the least. It is my least favourite book (and movie) so its taking me a surprisingly long time to finish it, as I am someone who usually finishes reading books in a few days.

Well, you can certainly see how much I’ve read it, it looks pretty battered, heehee. The first three books in the series are so battered that I am considering buying new ones.. I’d love a matching set!

Words cannot describe how super excited I am for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It looks amazing. Its just less than a month until its release…. I can’t wait! I was going to cosplay Draco Malfoy when I go to see it, but I forgot about it, and now its too close to the release date – plus I don’t have the money, hehe. The movie will have a lot of Draco AND Snape for obvious reasons – oh hello best characters! This trailer gave me shivers down my spine. I also squealed too.. being the fangirl that I am.

Busy Weekend~

June 14, 2009

This weekend has been quite eventful! Everybody got Friday off of school to attend the Sunshine Coast Show. Its just like a carnival (I guess!) with lots of rides, creepy side show alley guys & show bags! Not to mention the animal showing and over priced food.

This is the outfit I wore:

Carnival Outfit

I love patterned stockings :3~ The fact that I was wearing a dress didn’t even affect me on the rides, haha. The safety buckles kept my skirt from flying up anyway! My jeans were really dirty, so I couldn’t wear them anyway (and they are really boring).

Then on Saturday Ashleigh & I made our way to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (thanks to her mum!) to see PINK! Ashleigh won VIP tickets to the concert & she took me. It was an amazing experience! We had “activities” beforehand, which were quite boring so I just made the most of the time I had left of sitting down. Then we were lead to our special VIP area – right on front of the stage. It was the best view. Her support act were the band Faker – whom I don’t really like, but they sounded pretty good live, and the bassist was cute, hehehe. Everything about the show was super amazing and I loved it!

She played the guitar for this song, supported by the rest of the band. She was so nervous to be playing the guitar, she just kept talking! It was actually really cute to see her so nervous of doing something – she is usually so confident!

Check out those big clown things, they were really scary! They had fangs and everything x.x Luckily I no longer have a phobia of clowns…

This last picture isn’t a very good one, but its two of the performers. They did some ballet, it was really pretty. I think I’m biased because I love ballet, but it was adorable. This was at the end, when they kissed ^U^

So, needless to say, my body is feeling very tired right now. My muscles are aching in my arms and legs – from both the carnival & the concert! I will probably fall asleep during classes tomorrow, ha ha ha.

Welcome to Pirate Doll!

My Aim

I am going to focus on being a girl interested in fashion (particuarly, but not exclusively Lolita) but still attending school and living at home. I have been on the search for such a blog for quite a long time, because its my situation exactly, but never found one. I love reading inspirational lifestyle and fashion blogs, but I found they are mostly aimed at working women, who have a steady income. My solution was to make this blog myself.  For so long I had been searching for a blog or website that summed up my interests. I realised that what I actually wanted was to be the one with the blog. So here I am!

Why ‘Pirate Doll’?

Pirate Doll has been my online alias for quite a number of years now. Taken Borrowed from Jessica Origliasso of The Veronicas, one of my top fashion inspirations. I often think about changing this name, but it sums me up nicely. I’m not picture perfect, I am polite and nice, but I have a bad side that I can’t & don’t want to get rid of . This is the concept of “Pirate”, and “Doll” sums up the nice part of me that loves sweet things. The colour pink, fashion, cupcakes, bunnies and unicorns!

About Me

I am 15 years old. I earn a very, very small amount of money each week. I am in year 11 at high school. I’ve owned a whole heap of websites over my time on the internet, usually graphic design websites. I spend too much time thinking about boys and clothes, but there’s nothing wrong with that! Music plays a huge part in my life, and people who aren’t really fussed about music baffle me! I like to draw, design, read, play guitar and generally be creative. I’m a big believer in loving yourself for who you are, no matter what! I may not be the smartest, most mature person who ever lived, but are those things really important to be happy? I thought not…

What to expect?

I will be telling you all about my personal fashion and music tastes. I like to write instructional things, so expect blogs about things like hair, make up & really whatever else I can think of. The main things I want to touch on, are loving yourself, and living up to your potential, mostly fashion-wise! I have a wide range of interests, and seeing as I am only 15 years old, I’m still trying to figure out who I am and who I want to be. Maybe this blog will also help me on my path … who knows?

“Life is too short to look like everyone else!”
